Technologist

Paul Galjan

I'm a technologist specializing in hardware and software lifecycle management across diverse domains, from MASINT-driven machine learning solutions to event-driven architectures for large-scale compute orchestration.I particularly enjoy new product introduction, bringing late-research prototypes through the product process, as well as delivering high-leverage technology and process improvements to established high volume products.

About

Product design and ideation phases involve decisions and assumptions that carry order-of-magnitude variability in cost and complexity. This makes it difficult for the architect to assess project viability before committing expensive resources to prototyping. The projects I've chosen to publish here are generally focused on enhancing the data available to architects and decision makers during these phases.

Projects

  • EC2 Commodity Explorer and EFS Explorer help guardrail infrastructure cost across scale and feature points

  • Lifecycle Navigator allows the architect to accurately plan product lifecycle by mapping out interop for microservices architectures

  • Mermex dramatically eases authoring and change control for database diagrams, workflows, and time-based journeys

EC2 Commodity Explorer

Reliably estimate the price range of a solution before proof of concept. EC2 Explorer gives average, median, minimum, and maximum 3 year pricing for any compute instance available in US-EAST under any contract terms.

Lifecycle Navigator

Complex dependency graphs are the default with microservice architectures. Lifecycle Navigator visually maps release cadence and support status for over 60 software and hardware projects to assess interop and test matrix complexity.

EFS Explorer

The EFS Explorer returns a specific price to the user when presented with a storage pattern, feature set, location and project duration. It also allows analysis of throughput and storage costs across AWS regions.

Mermex

Mermex is an Excel widget designed for authoring large scale, complex Mermaid diagrams. It generates Mermaid syntax automatically, enhancing diagram iteration by incorporating functionalities like titling and watermarking, facilitating convenient export and streamlined version tracking. Excel can take programmatic input from virtually any source, generating consistent, error-free diagrams regardless of the flow complexity.

Career Path

My career spans initiatives across defense, enterprise, and commercial sectors, where I've delivered impactful and predictable solutions for clients across scale points. With a robust background in Edge computing, I've pioneered ruggedized, forward-deployed compute and storage platforms for for both NetApp and Dell Technologies. I currently specialize in developing repeatable patterns for emerging technology adoption, most recently the observability, mlOps, GIS, and serviceability strategies for NativeEdge, Dell's zero-touch compute orchestration platform. My approach applies structured analytic patterns to the product and solution development cycle, fostering deeper discovery during the ideation, concept, and design phases. This method accelerates decision making and development velocity, sharpens focus on unique value propositions, and highlights critical architectural decision points.
